Frequently Asked Questions
When can I bring items in for consignment? The Thrifty Bear takes consignment without an appointment! Usually, you can just walk in with your items any time the store is open and we will examine them. There are the occasional days when consingment may not be accepted, so feel free to call the store before heading out.
What kinds of items do you take? We are looking for brand name items in excellent condition and purchased NEW very recently. Seasonal and current style clothing is accepted in all sizes for women, and for kids size 2 and up. Casual clothing suited for men through college-age is accepted for men.
Will you take everything I bring in? Chances are, no. In order to allow a growing consignor base, there are some basic guidelines we use to accept consignment. Clothing needs to be in fashion, which usually means that it was purchased "new" within the last year or two. Clothing items must be freshly laundered and in "nearly new" condition. Be sure to inspect your items for any sign of wear: stained collars & cuffs, broken or missing buttons, faded, shrunk, pilly or anything that would make the item undesireable will not be accepted. Ask yourself if you would be willing to pay your own money for items you are bringing in.
Is there a limit? Yes, if this is your first consignment visit to the store: we recommend that you limit yourself to 25 items or so. We will go through your items and accept those items that we think will sell. We will also be happy to discuss what we are looking for to improve future consignment visits. If you are an established consignor, we ask that you limit yourself to a 'reasonable' amount-- one trip in the store.
How much do I get for my items? You will receive 40% of the basic consignment price for items that sell in the 60-day contract period. If you items is priced above $25.00 you will receive 60% of the basic consignment price.
.
When can I get my money? At your request! Your share of sold items posts to your account immediately. You may pick up your balance at any time. You may also use your balance to purchase items.
When can I bring in seasonal items? "The early bird gets the worm" is certainly a true expression when it comes to consigning. We start accepting "spring" in January and "fall" in July, "summer" as early as February and "winter" as early as August. Formal gowns suitable for Prom season are accepted January-May.
What happens to my clothes after the 60-days? If you want your unsold items back, you must visit the store before the end of the contract period. We will print you a list of your items for you to find from the racks. If you do not pick them up, they become the property of The Thrifty Bear to sell or dispose of as we want. We may continue to offer them for sale or donate them to a local rummage sale or charity.
Can I drop off and come back later? No, you must stay in the store while we go through your items. Use this time to check out the latest arrivals on our racks. Remember, if you do find something you would like to buy, you can take 20% off 1 item every time you bring in consignment.
Who sets the prices for items? The Thrifty Bear does. We price items based upon supply and demand, season, brand, condition and the current market value.
